Deliverables & Resources

This email was sent out on April 9 to those teams that registered. If you did not receive this email, please contact us.
Dear Science Fair parents and coaches,
Thank you all for signing up for the Science Fair! We hope that it will be a fun experience for the kids and we are looking forward to seeing interesting experiments and models on May 17!
The planning committee has put together some information and guidance that may be helpful to the students as they prepare for the Science Fair.
-
We are asking students to complete a science journal for both tracks: experiments and models/engineering. This is required for grades 2-5 and optional (but encouraged) for TK-1. Please make a copy of the journal for your student/team. Students can either hand write the journal or type directly in the document. The journal will be evaluated during the Science Fair and it is required to have at least 5 entries in the Observations and Data Collection section.
-
We are also asking each student to complete a Reflections worksheet to reflect on their experience. Please make a copy of the Reflections worksheet for each student and ask them to complete it either by hand or type in the document. The planning committee will ask students to share their worksheets with us so we can use their feedback to inform and guide next year’s Science Fair.
-
Please visit our website and view the slides from the information sessions if you have any questions. The rubric that will be used for evaluation is also on the website. Please refer to it as the students design and do their projects.
-
If teams need inspiration for brainstorming project ideas, there are resources listed on the website.
-
Tri-fold poster boards will be provided. We are working on that and will reach out when they are available to students/teams.
-
We will be in touch as it gets closer to the Science Fair with instructions on how and when to set up poster boards and projects (if needed) in the MUR.
-
Lastly, we are looking for judges to be part of the Scientific Panels. We have a fantastic turnout of students so we will need many judges. If you or anyone you know has a background in STEM and would like to be a judge, please reach out to us. The evaluations will take place on May 17 from 4:30pm-6:30pm. To avoid conflict of interest, parents will not evaluate their child’s project.
The planning committee welcomes any feedback or questions so please feel free to reach out to any one of us. We would like this to be enjoyable and stress-free for both students and parents and for the Science Fair to be a success. We are hoping to make it into a yearly tradition!
Have fun and good luck!
